FDNY, NYTF-1 and OEM

Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City, the 1996 Centennial Park Olympics bombing in Atlanta, GA, the 1999 West Nile Virus in NYC, the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the 2001 Anthrax attacks on NYC and the 2001 crash of American Airlines Flight 587 in Queens, NY.
US Department of Health and Human Services
In July 2002, Tim was detailed to the Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services to assist the Secretary in building command and control into the department. This included building the Secretary’s Command Center at headquarters in Washington, DC, a similar command center at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA, and similarly capable mobile assets. As part of Tim’s responsibilities, he was assigned to Federal Emergency Support Team (FEST), Domestic Emergency Support Team (DEST) and Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST). In 2003, the state of Rhode Island suffered a terrible fire at the Station Night Club. The Governor asked for help dealing with nearly 100 fatalities. Tim responded and requested the Disaster Mortuary Team (D-MORT) and were able to identify 96 bodies in 3 days. Tim also stood up the family assistance center and visited numerous burn patients with the Governor. After the emergency subsided, Tim stayed on with the Governor and helped him rebuild the state’s emergency management and homeland security capabilities. Also in 2003, Tim became a founding member of the US Department of Homeland Security.
US Department of Defense
In 2012, Tim joined the US Department of Defense’s Office of the Chief Prosecutor of Military Commissions, specifically the 9/11 Prosecution Task Force. The Task Force is DoD-lead and includes collaboration with the FBI, CIA, NGA and other federal agencies. It’s primary mission is prosecuting Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, et al, the terrorists who planned carried out the largest terrorist attacks in American history. Tim’s role consists mainly of relationship-building between the 9/11 community as well as other federal, state, local and private sector partners in support of the case. He recently retired from this full-time position and now remains part of the team as a part-time Subject Matter Expert.
Public Speaking
Tim’s story of his experience on 9/11, “Truth in History & Patience in Grief”, takes the audience through a range of emotions, from the shear bravery, courage and heroism of his friends to the horror he witnessed and to his own mortality and determination to live. He also speaks about “the dark years” when his own family was concerned that he might take his own life and the importance of holding on, finding your patience in the darkness, seeking help and not giving up because there is light, eventually and what a new, wonderful life he has now. Tim helped create the 9/11 Museum’s Professional Program, created for and attended by new FBI employees. When word got out about this powerful program, many other agencies began attending, including the CIA, DIA, NGA, and DHS to name a few. Tim also travels to bring the story to our Protectors, including many special operations force teams domestically and throughout the world, including to our military and intelligence teams and allies throughout the Middle East. Charities Tim is a Board member for the National September 11th Memorial Trail Foundation and Missions of Honor Foundation. He volunteers with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, the National September 11th Memorial and Museum and Operation 300.
